When I saw the billboard for What to Expect When You’re Expecting, I wasn’t sure what to make of it. Of course, like every pregnant woman, I had read the book. But a movie? It was more of an educational resource book than a narrative story, so how would that translate on screen?
We’ll, if you saw the movie in theatres (and for those who didn’t, you get a second chance when the DVD comes out September 11) you know that the movie, just like the book, is an accurate, truthful, hilarious, tear-jerking account of pregnancy.
As Jennifer Lopez, who stars in the movie as “Rosie,” says about the book, “I think every pregnant couple – every pregnant woman reads it. It was so accurate about everything that was happening every step of the way.”
It’s true! According to USA Today, 93% of all pregnant mothers who read a pregnancy guide read What To Expect When You’re Expecting.
So, if you’re expecting, or in the first year of child rearing, or raising a toddler, get you must read the baby Bible, What to Expect When You’re Expecting, now in its 4rth edition; plus, once you’ve had the baby, there are two sequels: What to Expect in the First Year, and What to Expect the Second Year – from 12 to 24 Months.”
So if you’ve learned that you are expecting (or you have a little one), I have good news! I am giving away free copies of each of these books!
To enter, just become a friend on Out with Mommy’s Facebook page or follow me on Twitter and message or tweet me about the book you would most enjoy. Winners will be selected randomly using random.com.

Author’s Note: In case you have not heard of HubPages, it is a great outlet for writing about topics you know while making a little money too!
HubPages Announces Contest, Helps Educate Community on Online Writing Skills
SAN FRANCISCO, Calif (March 31, 2011) — HubPages believes that while publishing has moved from an offline to an online model, many writers still struggle to understand how to be the most effective online author. To provide its 200,000 writers with the education and guidance necessary to learn all the ways that writing can be successful in a world of online publishing, HubPages is announcing its “So You Think You Can Write Online” contest where writers are encouraged to submit articles on any topic, and be judged and rewarded on online writing skills.
“The traditional model of publishing, where readers subscribed to newspapers or magazines, or bought books from a brick and mortar store, is fast disappearing. Now, more and more readers find their knowledge online, often through search or social media recommendations. In this era of online reading, writers too have to educate themselves to write for an online universe,” says Paul Edmondson, CEO and co-founder of HubPages. “This is what HubPages is best equipped to do, teach and guide our community of writers to understand the world of the Internet, and help them become superlative online writers. This contest is designed to educate, inform and reward our writers for skills related to online writing.”
Starting this April HubPages’ So You Think You Can Write Online contest will reward writers for effective writing for the Internet, the criterion including, but not limited to excellent writing skills, interesting, niche topics, original content, searchable titles, Internet-friendly tone and a tasteful use of HubPages capsules.
“In one of the hardest times in publishing, many writers are struggling to make the transition from writing for traditional readers to writing for online readers. The new paradigms are a struggle for many,” says Simone Smith, Community Manager and contest organizer. “Through this contest, HubPages seeks to inform, educate, and reward writers who most effectively employ the new ways of writing online by creating original, well-written articles which have the ability to be found via search, forwarded via social media, and take on a viral life of its own.”
Writers can first start submitting entries for the contest on March 31st at 12:00pm (PT) and can continue submitting entries until 12:00pm on April 28th.
There is a limit of five entries per day, but each entry will have a chance to win $50 in a random Daily Drawing, $50 for being the Staff Pick of the day, $100 for being a People’s Choice of the week (based on popular vote), $100 for winning the Best Hub prize for a week (based on contest judge ranking), and $250 for being a Grand Prize winner.
HubPages (www.HubPages.com) is a social content community where everyday experts communicate their knowledge to information seekers through online articles while earning an income. For users, HubPages is the most rewarding place to contribute knowledge while interacting with a like-minded community, making money, and retaining the ownership of their content. HubPages provides users with turn-key technology, a Google-enabled platform and an easy way to be recognized for their expertise and knowledge.
Publication of HubPages articles doubled in 2010, growing from 600,000 in early January, to 1,100,000 at the end of December. The number of published writers increased 64 percent to 205,000, as did their engagement within the site, with 86 percent more forum posts by users and many more questions and answers posted within HubPages’ community pages.
Started in 2006, the company has raised $8 million in funding in two rounds from Hummer Winblad Venture Partners and Storm Ventures.

SEARCH IS ON FOR “GREEN TEAMS” AND NEXT-GENERATION LEADERS
TO COMPETE IN EARTHCARE CHALLENGE II
HICKORY, N.C. – Hickory Springs, one of the nation’s leading suppliers of components to the furniture industry, understands the importance of a solid foundation for the good of the environment. Today the company announced a nationwide search for school and community-based teams to compete in the “EarthCare Challenge II.” The contest asks America to show how environmental education is inspiring students of all ages to lead green initiatives in communities everywhere.
Following the 2010 EarthCare Challenge which chronicled individual contestants’ quests toward a greener lifestyle, this year’s competition will bring together communities and school groups in search of the best green projects presented by teams.
To enter, teams must post either a photo or video of their project with information on the EarthCare Challenge Facebook page, www.facebook.com/earthcarechallenge by February 18.
“Through the EarthCare Challenge, Hickory Springs celebrates the people that make grassroots initiatives possible, proving that you’re never too young or old to make a difference in your community,” said Hickory Springs Executive Vice President Dwayne Welch. “Schools are a foundation for tomorrow’s leaders; the Challenge provides an opportunity for students to be rewarded for inspiring their friends, family and communities to live more sustainably.”
The EarthCare Challenge takes place entirely on Facebook and is featured on affiliated sites Twitter, YouTube and EarthCareInside.com. It promotes the company’s EarthCare Inside line of recycled and bio-based components for upholstered furniture, featured in products from manufacturers such as Craftmaster, Alan White Furniture, England and H.M. Richards.
“Over the last several years many home furnishings companies such as Hickory Springs have committed themselves to providing consumers with products that help them lead a greener lifestyle. We are excited to have an interactive platform that encourages the dialogue and brings more awareness around the efforts made by our furniture industry partners,” said Welch.
The call for entries runs now through February 18 on the EarthCare Challenge fan page on Facebook. On February 21, Hickory Springs will announce the finalist teams selected to compete in The EarthCare Challenge which will take place on the page throughout March.
Through Facebook updates, teams demonstrate the progress of their projects, while the public is encouraged to join the page and vote for their favorite through comments or ‘Likes’ on contestants’ posts.
Judged by a panel of green experts and Hickory Springs, a winner will be announced on April 4 based on the team that has demonstrated the most dynamic progress. The grand prize includes $1,000 to the winning team plus a collection of EarthCare furniture to be used to furnish their community space of choice.
The contest is open to U.S. residents over 21 years of age. Middle and high school students affiliated with schools or after-school programs may participate with a team leader who is over the age of 21. Official contest details are available at www.earthcareinside.com.
